Gimp has received a whole lotta love after many years. One might say, a total revamp has befallen trusty old Gimp.

Gimp 2.10. Default is black and monochrome.

sudo apt install -t stretch-backports gimp

gimp is already the newest version (2.8.18-1+deb9u1)
