GNU/Linux-based postmarketOS project aims to give smartphones a 10-year lifecycle
That looks promising, I'd try it if I had a compatible device.
Interesting... I'll contact them to see if they are aware of Replicant,
this avoids duplicating work. :)

Hello ADFENO,
did they get back to you? Libre computing for phones is something I'm interested in :)

Yes, I got a response. See:

2017-09-18T11:02-0300 Does any one know if postmarketOS is
considering joining efforst with Replicant?
2017-09-18T11:06-0300 I'm not sure how we would join efforts?
2017-09-18T11:06-0300 we try to avoid the Android build system
entirely
2017-09-18T11:06-0300 PureTryOut: reverse engineering and kernel
work
2017-09-18T11:06-0300 ... and I just read ollieparanoid[m]'s post on
the unsustainable "development model" of Android... which cites an experiment
made by a Brazilian friend of mine ;)
2017-09-18T11:08-0300 ... and cascardo is here ;)
2017-09-18T11:08-0300 adfeno: you mean the GNU on smartphones
blog?
2017-09-18T11:09-0300 ata2001[m]: yep
2017-09-18T11:10-0300 adfeno: yeah, we have already talked to
cascardo
2017-09-18T11:15-0300 thanks for the info guys
2017-09-18T11:19-0300 Also, I wonder, is there a plan for the project
to be included in (for
distros which depend on, or provide, GNU packages) or
(for those which
don't)?
[...]
2017-09-18T11:26-0300 adfeno: we are not aiming for FSF endorsed
status right now, most of the devices require proprietary firmware for basic
functionality
2017-09-18T11:27-0300 but we might provide a way to have a fully
libre pmos install in the future
2017-09-18T11:29-0300 we already put the proprietary firmware in
separate packages

Basically, it would be good to help the project, however, can't
recommend it to the general public (because it isn't a free/libre system
distribution).
However, I'm worried that they have the "mass adoption" goal. To test
this one has to send improvements so as to remove non-free stuff
(whether adding free/libre replacements or not) and seeing the outcome.
