Is Google secretly behind Purism? I might be reading into it too much.

Purism claims to have met with coreboot developers to port coreboot to their laptops. Two of the major developers are Stefan Reinauer and Ron Minnich (https://puri.sm/coreboot/timeline/). They do NOT mention any involvement with Google at all on this page.

During the time they were porting coreboot to Purism, Stefan Reinauer and Ron Minnich were employed at Google (https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTI4Mzk).

Yet Purism only portrays Google in a negative light WITHOUT acknowledging that Google employees worked for them (https://puri.sm/learn/eliminating-corporate-control-and-data-capitalism/) and (https://puri.sm/about/)...

Funny how that works.

Purism is pretty slimy, but they draw attention to the free software movement. I don't see how that benefits Google.

EDIT: Never mind, I was trying to figure something out about their laptops and hastily jumped to this conclusion. Sorry for sounding strange.

I wanted to know if those computers were OEM, and now it seems that they are from Quanta Computers

Ehm...
First Where is written than Mr. Reinauer and Mr. Minnich are working for Purism?
Citing the link you posted: Todd Weaver met again with various coreboot contributors (including Stefan Reinauer, Ron Minnich, David Hendricks, and a few others).

I see coreboot contributors.

Second it is perfectly normal in IT and in many other sectors to jump from one company to another and sometimes back and forth. In the meantime this doesn't mean you remain affiliated with the company you left and act as an agent for it. This is purely fiction.

I think that is not realistic what you wrote.
The CPU you mentioned is a specialized CPU to run special code that is not designed to replace general purpose CPU. Did you read the links you cited?

We all make mistakes, and it's understandable to be suspicious of both Purism and Google.

maybe you are very young :) but for experience companies allow employees to contribute to open source or free projects. So it is normal to see some people working on coreboot in their free time and for other company in working time.
