Graphics driver support for Intel® G33 x86/MMX/SSE2 with Trisquel GNU/Linux's 64-bit version.
I have just installed Trisquel GNU/Linux 6.0.1, 64-bit version on my computer, whose specification is available here.
Everything works excellent, and I have even enabled Compiz. One thing that I find a bit annoying is that my graphics driver (Intel® G33 x86/MMX/SSE2) is listed as unknown and Experience as Fallback. (See attached file.)
[1] Do this graphics driver support 64-bit version of Trisquel GNU/Linux? (This one works fine on a Trisquel GNU/Linux 7.0, 32-bit installation.)
[2] Can I get support for this graphics driver by upgrading to the latest version of linux-libre kernel from jxself's repo?
Thank you in advance.

Why haven't you installed Trisquel 7?
Updating the kernel always is an option to get hardware to (better) work: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/update-linux-libre-kernel
Hi Magic Banana,
>>Why haven't you installed Trisquel 7?
My internet download speed is unfortunately low, this time; So I decided to download Trisquel 6.0.1 from mirror.fsf.org for the time being. I will soon upgrade to Trisquel 7.0.
By the way, do you have any idea whether this graphics driver support 64-bit free software distributions?
I searched the Intel's official website, but I could not find an answer. My motherboard supports both Windows XP and Vista (Sorry for mentioning those proprietary OS; But they have been COMPLETELY wiped out!) 64-bit versions. That's the only motivation I decided to switch over to 64-bit flavour.
You can install a 64-bit version of Trisquel on this computer. I just do not understand why you choose the dated Trisquel 6. Trisquel 7's ISO is not larger.

Thank you for the confirmation, Magic Banana!
I think intel graphics driver updates can be installed by installing xserver-xorg-lts-(trusty/quantal/raring) rather than by installing a new kernel......if I'm not mistaken.
As far as I understand, it only is part of the video driver. The main part is in the kernel.
Hi Magic Banana,
>>Updating the kernel always is an option to get hardware to (better) work:
You are absolutely right! But my graphics driver is still reported as Unknown, even after upgrading the kernel from Linux-libre 3.2.0.91 (from Trisquel 6.0.1 LTS) to Linux-libre 3.13.0.65. (from Trisquel 7.0 LTS)
EDIT: Does the problem lies with any missing gnome-dependent package? Last time my HP printer failed to get added with Trisquel 7. I remember installing a specific gnome package (system-config-printer-gnome, to be exact) solved the issue.
It is just a wild guess.
Have you checked /var/log/Xorg.0.log? If it says that the generic "vesa" driver is used, then it is indeed non-optimal. Unless PowerVR made your graphical chipset (Intel used to outsource the development of some of their chipsets) and there is no better working driver for them (I believe): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PowerVR#List_of_PowerVR_chipsets
Hi Magic Banana,
You are 100% correct!
It is indeed VESA driver, and it is not designed by PowerVR. But in that case, why it works flawless on a Trisquel 7.0, 32-bit version?
Anyway, thank you for input.
