How do I get 4.5 Packages in this time and age?

As far as I know only the source packages to those available in Trisquel 4.5 are still present. Is there any way I can get the binaries, or under an automated process build all the source packages in it? How much of my hard drive will it take, and how much time will it take a Pentium 4 CPU with 1Gb of RAM to do it?

note: I asked about Trisquel 4.5 because, being based on Ubuntu 10.10, it's the only edition with Gallium3D support, Compiz 0.8.6, and the abiliy to look good without using GTK+3 themes at all.

It is a terrible idea to use a version of Trisquel that is not supported anymore. Some of its software contains known security problems that will never be fixed. If your computer is too slow for Trisquel 6 + Compiz, what about trying Trisquel Mini 6 + Compiz?

This is a really bad idea. Slaine is an unsupported version of Trisquel which will never receive any more security updates. Instead, you could install MATE, an actively maintained DE forked from GNOME2. Follow these instructions.

If you really want to use Slaine, you will have to point your sources.list to http://oldarchive.trisquel.info/trisquel/ and change the release name to "slaine". However, doing this is STRONGLY discouraged.

I asked for slaine because anything newer tan that uses Compiz 0.9 (and the one present in April 2011 was pretty awful, I think), and anyhting newer than that uses GTK+3.

Anything older than Slaine (i.e. Taranis) hadn't made use of Gallium3D yet.

The

I guess I won't mind abandoning my idea of using Equinox Evolution Dusk, though, if I'm forced to.

Thanks, Legimet. I'll (unfortunately) try it.

Why can't you use MATE? It's forked from GNOME 2 and uses GTK+2. If you want an older version of compiz, compile it from source.

If you use Slaine, you won't receive any security updates or support on this forum, as support for it ended 2 years ago. Right now, the only supported version of Trisquel for desktop is 6.0 Toutatis (Taranis, based on 10.4, is supported only for server, meaning that only server packages will be updated)

In short, don't use Slaine.

You may try to install Compiz 0.8 stable and Emerald from source code with this step by step commands. Just copy and paste those commands. I tested with Mate 1.6 and Mate 1.4 , and Trisquel 6 mini.

Demo video here:

Installation Compiz+Emerald 0.8.9 here:http://pastebin.com/FDWVjVxU

For Mate 1.4 you have informations here:

Another tutorial here but is with latest Compiz 0.9.5

You can install Trisquel 6.0 in this computer. The big problem in my opinion is Abrowser (since version 4 from 2011). It's memory hungry.

Trisquel 6.0 32-bit boot with GNOME Fallback 3.4 with 130~150MB of RAM. 64-bit boot with 250MB. The old computer I had was Celeron, worst than your CPU.

No, the problem for me was the fact that there wasn't, and still isn't, a GTK+3 release (well, port in all but code) of the Equinox Evolution themes, leading me to try to avoid GTK+3 - and the perfect way of doing so is by using a pre-Oneiric (pre-Brigantia) version.

Even though I asked for Slaine, http://oldarchive.trisquel.info/trisquel/dists/slaine/Release doesn't show the binaries, forcing me to try Dagda instead (the binaries seem to be present in http://oldarchive.trisquel.info/trisquel/dists/dagda/Release ) - and, as things turned out, Compiz 0.8 is actually there (0.9.x would be too slow for the Leaf Spread effect I want).

So I'm happily running Dagda now, thanks to Legimet. (Sorry)

About my processor: It, along with a Gb of RAM and an Nvidia 6200 card, nicely runs Abrowser 27 (I've got a Toutatis installation on another partition) in Unity. I posted about it because I initially thought only the source packages were present in the repos and that I had to build all of them.

*Solved*.
