how much systemd is in Trisquel 7?
Sorry to bring the dreaded subject up again, but, how much of systemd is in Trisquel 7?
I was under the impression that it was part of T7, but when I tried to run one of the systemd commands (journalctl -f), it reports that journalctl is not installed, yet there is systemd stuff marked as installed in synaptic.
Probably only libraries that work with other init systems too.

Trisquel 7 is still using Upstart, so no need to worry about it until
2016+. ;-)

Andrew.
GNOME depends on certain systemd components as of version 3.8 (that's why OpenBSD and FreeBSD don't have these recent versions of GNOME).

That's made me a happy man.

Oh. My. GOD! AWESOME!!!
I'm switching to Trisquel *NOW*.
***PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT SWITCH TO GNOME3 OR SYSTEMD***
For what it's worth, I've not used asterisks or caps to bold things in
emails for a very long time, so I've brought them all out the bag as
systemd should not be included in any sensible distros.

Why systemd should not be in any distro?

My first gripe is that logging is less able than current preferred unix
methods, i.e. append to a file. The systemd way is to have a binary log
that, I dislike, it's not like other services:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=64116
Secondly, why replace init with such a huge and complex platform?
Thirdly, why do it in a way that is incompatible with sysv? The end user
should ideally be able to switch between sysv, upstart and systemd at
whim.

Actually Trisquel 5.5 and above already use GNOME 3 with "Fallback
Mode" as the shell.
If Trisquel 8 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 then it will most likely come
with systemd.
Andrew.
I have switched to freeslack.
When the dust has settled on the systemd controversy and the various accusations against is have been proven to be groundless, or there is simply no longer any choice at all, I'll consider accepting it on this machine.
But I don't see me ever accepting Gnome, unless there's some change in the developer's attitude and I have given it a good run for its money, but it drives me to distraction with its needless, 'intellectual engineering' driven design.
So the discovery of Trisquel and in particular some of the conversations I've had on this forum have cleared my compromise ridden thinking towards software and have enabled me to find a better direction, for which I am grateful.
But freeslack has allowed me to run my beloved Slackware without the proprietary stuff and for this puppy that is just about as awesome as IT gets.
Thank you for mentioning "Freeslack", I didn't know about its existence.
