Hyperbola getting a little love on a video by a popular u-tuber today

Fortunately Brodie Robertson makes all his GNU/Linux videos available on odysee.com also, so I don't have to give out a u-tube or invidious address. But here it is: https://odysee.com/@BrodieRobertson:5/xenocara-that-x11-server-that-isn't-xorg:d

Brodie is an interesting video content creator from Australia with a very enjoyable accent. He's firmly entrenched in his love for GNU/Linux (especially Arch). But today he gives Hyperbola and the Xenocara project (Hyperbola's alternative to Xorg) and the Linux-libre world some love. I thought it was a good and fairly informative video, and I started a comment conversation underneath. Hopefully a few people will see it and will get interested in fully libre distros.

If the desire is to attract people I think this could have been better, without the backhanded comments. I wish he would have introduced Linux-libre in a more positive light, rather than presenting it as a kernel that's incompatible with your hardware. Additionally, I think it's important to emphasize that free software is for everyone, not just for those technically knowledgeable Richard Stallman types. I doubt that those who weren't already aware and interested in this topic would be convinced to try it based on this presentation alone.

The video creator isn't trying to attract people to Hyperbola or to using distros with Linux-libre, he's just trying to see if his audience is interested in this topic. If this video gets a lot of engagement (views and comments and new subscriptions to his channel), then he will explore the libre software issues more and will urge more people to try it.

Luke Smith used to libreboot laptops on u-tube and install Parabola on them (and I think Trisquel), and he would get hundreds of thousands of views, and a lot of young people got into libre software from his videos. Many of the younger people aren't sitting around reading philosophical books on freedom by RMS and pondering the great mysteries of life - they need to learn that these issues exist from somewhere else.

The guy has lots of hair on the top of his head, he does not seem to be up to the GNU/Linux vlogging standards.

Well, many of the older people aren't sitting around reading philosophical books either. For a while, I had been thinking that some good may come out of this obsession for DIY videographical content, but I was clearly being overly optimistic, no good can come out of this hyper-caricatural exercise in self-marketing. Consequently, I am considering starting my own video channel about how Harry Potter is in fact a cheap rehash of the primitive sacrificial myth common to all human societies, albeit failing to reveal it in full, contrary to the acclaimed documentary "The Life of Brian". Stay tuned, younger people not sitting around reading Aristotle.

I believe AI is going to be very interested in fully libre distros. Once it gets that, there will be no stopping the next biological revolution. Or should we call it the mineral revolution? Or the bio-mineralogical transition. For humans, it will be the cave or the implants. Back to the ground, or bionic.

I do not like putting metallic things through my body very much, so I guess I will simply stay in my cave. Smoke signals, so on so forth...

I'm surprised that more of our forum members don't use pictures of Vladimir Lenin, Josef Stalin, or Chairman Mao for their avatars. Or Leon Trotsky.

I should be doing a "heroes of the international revolution" rotation on my avatar pictures. Use a picture of a new mighty hero of the revolution each week.

Maybe throw in a few images of this cheery, bushy fellow.

And of course, we couldn't forget our mighty Western heroes of the revolution, Che and Fidel. Also very bushy fellows in their own right, although not quite up to the bushiness standard of Mr. Marx.

Sadly, Mao really lagged in the bushiness category. Not quite as inspiring of a figure without being so bushy.

Like you, I have only ever used self-portraits.

That's our very own zapper that donated that X230. Sweet gift from a very generous fellow.

That's our very own jxself that donated that $1,000.00 to Trisquel. Sweet gift from a very generous fellow. Especially given that one of his own D16 went into meltdown mode not so long ago.

jxself is about the best person I've personally known of in this movement, and his kernels have been running countless of my machines for years. Before I knew about his repo I was compiling the Linux-libre kernel for myself with every new release, which was very freuqently. I still would like to see him running the FSF.

I give zapper credit because he's a close personal friend, and because that's my job as his PR manager/bodyguard/style consultant is to promote his brand and his social media presence.
