Greetings ladies and gentlemen:

My team and I are currently making a project and we need to make a poster describing what it does: Could you recommend me a free as in freedom program that could help me to accomplish that purpose?

Thank you

Scribus is probably what you're looking for.

I designed many posters with InkScape. It's a really good software.

If the purpose deals with science (explaining clearly) more than with marketing (being attractive) then you may like LaTeX beamerposter. Here is an example: http://dcc.ufmg.br/~lcerf/publications/posters/A%20Lossless%20Data%20Reduction%20for%20Mining%20Constrained%20Patterns%20in%20n-ary%20Relations.pdf

If you already know LaTeX (or, even better, LateX Beamer), then it probably is the simpler solution. If not, well, it is a whole language to learn...

Sorry, yes it's about science, and yes I'm familiar with LaTeX.

Since my team are not familiar with LaTeX, then we will try Scribus.

Thank you very much.

I use LibreOffice Impress and LibreOffice Draw for this type of posters.

I've heard people like Lyx "an almost WYSIWYG-frontend for LaTeX". It's available in the repos and the package is called lyx.

But he's making a poster........and I don't think LyX is supposed to help anybody with that.

LibreOffice Draw, and maybe Inkscape?
