Ibus for Japanese Input

I have followed the required steps to install Ibus, to be able to type in Japanese, but although I can see the kana when hitting CTRL+SPACE still nothing happens when I click on SPACE to convert from kana to kanji. The Ibus icon doesn't show on the icon tray either (even when that option is checked).

Could someone explain to me how to do it, please? I'm new to Trisquel and Ibus.

IBus is really finnicky on Trisquel for some reason, and I haven't the slightest idea how I got it to work properly (I previously used it on other systems; Trisquel 6 is the first time I've had this problem). My best suggestion is to try playing around with the settings, because as I said, I have no idea how I got it working right on my system.

Finally found the reason why it wasn't working: I don't know what the difference between Anthy and Anthy (mt17n) is but I changed the input method to just Anthy and it worked!

Thanks for your help, I wouldn't have worked it out if you didn't show me the pics!

Huh, I never even considered that. Well, I'm glad to know what caused that!

Do I need to install special packages to get full Japanese support.
I am limited to Hiragana so I can write はつねみく but not 初音ミク.
There is not input method symbol in my systray. Anthy is not avialable in my setup, I can only select Anthy (m17n).

I searched "anthy" in Synaptic, and I see that I have these packages installed:

anthy
anthy-common
ibus-anthy
libanthy0

I don't know whether these came with Trisquel by default or I installed them myself.

You need to go to System Settings>Language Support>Install/Remove Languages>Select Japanese and apply changes.

ibus-anthy is not installed by default, but European languages such as Dånish or Greek work out of the box. I installed it manyally. You can also use kasumi to add your own words to the dictionary.

Did you try rebooting? Also you could try using the shortcuts.

There is still no systray icon in GNOME3, and I havent tried unity or KDE yet. However I can use the Japanese Input with an Overlay language Panel.
