This doesn't really answer the prompt, but might be useful: I find that when trying to view an image shared through Imgur, the image doesn't display without JavaScript, but appending ".jpg" to the URL usually gives you the location of the image. Similarly, the location of a Gfycat video is usually the URL of the page plus ".webm".
