Installation of Boinc
My hardware is:
Motherboard - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. RAMPAGE IV EXTREME (LGA2011)
CPU - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3930K CPU @ 3.20GHz, 3201 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
I installed Trisquel on my PC and everything looked good, then I used the Synaptic Package Manager to install BOINC. I, then, rebooted.
Rebooting did not succeed. The GNOME Display Manager indicated "fail" during boot up.
I've tried twice to install Trisquel and BOINC and twice the same result occurred.
FYI - BOINC software works in this PC under Windows 7 Pro.
Is there a fix for getting the GNOME Display Manager to succeed under these conditions?
Thanks for the help.
P. S. - There are, I assume, Spanish word on the Create Forum Topic page.
I only speak/read English. These words are Asunto and Corpo. IMO, these words should be translated into English.
If you want to use BOINC for the "climateprediction.net" project (like I did, some years ago - and, that was probably the reason why my previous motherboard didn't last long) forget about it... The whole "climate change" story, due to human behaviour (I later learned) it's a huge hoax. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/6679082/Climate-change-this-is-the-worst-scientific-scandal-of-our-generation.html + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52Mx0_8YEtg)
If you want to use it for something else, I hope then it's for a worthwhile project, that justifies wearing your computer. And, I'll leave it for other people to help you. (Since, I unfortunately can't remember anything, now, of what I did, in order to get that program running on GNU/Linux...)
Check this out, then tell me if it is worthwhile...

Edit:
Is it possible to get an email notification to the OP that a Post has been submitted to the thread? If it is, how do I activate the notification system.
I don't know about being notified of new posts in a thread - since that, I only check for new messages on this forum via the web page. But, if you subscribe to the corresponding mailing-list, you'll get every message sent to this forum.
Concerning the mentioned project,
The best way to stop people from dying of cancer, is to: (1) convince them to stop taking vaccines (another fraud: https://web.archive.org/web/20100825190835/http://www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=2668629 + http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=120706.msg751117#msg751117) with cancer-causing viruses in them (http://www.naturalnews.com/042077_cdc_polio_vaccines_cancer_viruses.html); and (2) to stop eating and drinking stuff with cancer-causing additives, components and GMOs - like aspartame, MSG etc (http://www.activistpost.com/2010/07/7-secret-ways-we-are-being-poisoned.html).
And, concerning the supposed goal, of that project, of a search for ways to fight cancer,
I strongly suspect that (like with the case of AIDS, where, if you're a basketball player with lots of money, you won't die from it) there are already cures for cancers, only not known by the general public. (Since that, I never saw one single member of the elite - royal families etc - dying of one.) And, the indications are that cheap and easy to produce substances, that people could use to fight cancer, are being purposely kept unavailable to the people who need them (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6_pZK_gqxk).
So, unless you're planning a revolution... If you're not a member of the elite, the best thing to do is, like I said above, to not take any vaccines, whatsoever, and to eat and drink as healthy/organic as possible.
And, in case you do get a cancer, resort to a treatment based on natural products (http://www.prisonplanet.com/how-to-slash-world-cancer-rates-by-90-percent-healthy-foods-exercise-and-vitamin-d.html) since that, overall, conventional chemotherapy has a much lower (around 2-and-something percent) success rate - if /any/ (http://www.prisonplanet.com/swayze-put-his-faith-in-conventional-cancer-treatments.html).
And, if anyone thinks this is not something to worry about... If the mass media are right, somewhere between a third to a half of the people reading this words will get some form of cancer in their lifetime (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/10103449/Half-of-Britons-will-get-cancer-during-their-life-by-2020.html).
And, if anyone living in Western countries, already being hit by so-called "austerity" measures (http://www.prisonplanet.com/bilderberg-fears-losing-control-in-chaos-plagued-world.html) is counting on medical care to possible survive a cancer... Don't count much on it. Since that, (like I said above) besides the conventional treatment for cancers not being an effective one... For anything else (in my country, at least) people have already started dying due to lack of medical assistance... And, it's an admitted goal of the elite to want to reduce the world population by huge numbers (http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/january2007/290107rockefellergoal.htm + http://www.prisonplanet.com/msnbc-in-cover-up-of-manifestly-provable-population-control-plan.html).
There is a lot of stuff in here I strongly object to, and since you're putting this out here as if it were fact, I will comment to say that research is a skill: it can be improved. Specifically, many people struggle with source hierarchy and distinguishing between credible and non-credible sources. Here are a few principles to get you started.
This is however a website about technology and free software, not people's personal opinions on various other subjects. I'm sure that people here have many various beliefs, but it would probably be best to avoid voicing them here: I don't want to see Trisquel get pidgeon-holed or associated with anything it's not.

Look at this guy's track record, he's a nut job:
He has taken a stance which runs counter to the scientific consensus on a number of issues, including global warming, the link between passive smoking and cancer,[2] and the dangers posed by asbestos
-- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Booker
(And, Al Gore is a sexual predator - http://www.flynews.com/2010/07/01/police-reopen-al-gore-rape-investigation-on-masseuse-molly-haggerty.html - and a hypocrite - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6401489.stm...)
I don't know anything about that journalist, besides what I read in that article. (And, him being someone who works for the controlled media, I'm not that curious to know more about him...) He's just someone who's article I've picket, when I could have picked some other, from a huge lot of other more. (And, if someone who's indeed crazy starts also saying that global warming, due to human behaviour, is a hoax, it's not based on that particular person's statements that we should make our judgements, but from the indisputable scientific evidence and facts, that are not open to interpretations.)
Anyway, the second link that I've left, is to a /very good/ documentary about the subject - which includes interviews to a lot of well-known scientists.
But, if anyone wants some more links about this subject, here are some others, then:

Prison planet and YouTube in one post... I'm taking the bait.

What did you install. As far as I understand you need the package "boinc-client" package for a client with no graphical interface and "boinc-manager" for a client with a graphical interface.
Using the Synaptic Package Manager, search for "boinc". Click on "boinc" when it is presented and that will automatically select the sub-topic files such as "boinc-client". I can't speak to the exact wording of the apply choices to click on, but a little applied common sense will result in installing the boinc software package.
I hope that helps.
Well, it looks OK. According to this old message (more recent than Trisquel 6 though), Matsetes made BOINC work on Trisquel. You can try to contact him: https://trisquel.info/fr/users/matsetes/contact
Notice that many BOINC projects actually make your system run proprietary software!
Thanks Banana. I left Matsetes a query for assistance.
FYI - I've been running BOINC since 2008 on Vista, Windows7, and Linux Mint.
If I could find a different Linux OS that could run on my afore mentioned PC and run Boinc, I would and not be pestering you nice people. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck solving that issue.
PS - I hope he understands English, because I do not read French.
The "fr" in the URL only reveals that *I* configured Trisquel's website to be in French when *I* log in. Matsetes definitely speaks English. I believe he is Italian because he translates into Italian texts of the GNU project and the Trisquel project.
What exactly does the error message say?
Note that these are the only free projects for BOINC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Free_software_BOINC_projects
I solved my issue. The Add/Remove function includes Boinc and actually works.
Why the Package Manager version fails, I have no idea. It works with other OSs.
This is really strange... =D
However, I can speak English and French but I'm Italian =)
