Latest kernel
Hi to everyone.
What is now the latest kernel in Trisquel mini 9(64 bit)? Because I'm not sure to receive the kernel updates on my desk pc. Thanks
I set up to use the linux libre kernel -
https://jxself.org/linux-libre/
After update today:
$ uname -r
5.10.23-gnu
Hello Piriponzolo,
The version of the kernel shipped with Trisquel (except for the netinstall, you can select among multiple versions) is 4.15.0-151-generic. You may get security updates but it will always be a version of 4.15.
I don't think you need to update the version of the kernel unless you have a specific need.
Hello! Thank you for the responses. I don't know why, but I have in my desk pc the kernel 4.15.0-117-generic. Mahh!
Don't you receive upgrades?
Exactly, I don't receive kernel upgrades only. It is strange, I have now the 4.15.0-117-generic.
Is the package named "linux-image-generic" installed? That package depends on the latest version of the 4.15.0 kernel. You should definitely install it: vulnerabilities have certainly been fixed since version 4.15.0-117. If linux-image-generic is installed, what happens if you try to install linux-image-4.15.0-151-generic?
Yes, the package "linux-image-4.15.0-117-generic" is insttalled. The package "linux-headers-4.15.0-117-generic" is not installed, I have checked in Synaptic. If I try to install "linux-image-4.15.0-151-generic", I have the following:
Suggested packages:
fdutils linux-doc-4.15.0 | linux-source-4.15.0 linux-tools
linux-headers-4.15.0-151-generic
The followinng NEW packages will be installed:
linux-image-4.15.0-151-generic linux-modules-4.15.0-151-generic
0 upgraded, 2 to be installed, 0 to be rimoved and 0 not upgraded.
It is necessary to download 20,5 MB of arichives.
Yes, the package "linux-image-4.15.0-117-generic" is insttalled.
My question is whether the package simply named "linux-image-generic" (no version in the name) is installed. If not, installing it should trigger the installation of the latest version and the Update Manager will propose you the latest bug-fix version whenever one is released in Trisquel's repository.
Thank you for the response and suggestion, Magic Banana. Tha package "linux-image-generic" was not installed. I have now installed that package and the latest kernel is 4.15.0-151-generic. Have I to install the suggested package "linux-headers-4.15.0-151-generic!?
You certainly do not need the headers.
