Linux Development Assistance?

Since it is stated not to send technical questions using the contact forum, I'd like to ask Trisquel for some assistance, seeing as you guys know what you are doing.

I am developing a Ubuntu-derived, 100% GNU compliant operating system, I have been for quite some time now actually. However, I have run into the following problems I would LOVE for help getting resolved.

1. How do I set the default gnome theme?

2. How do I ensure custom menu items and folders are saved?

3. How do I modify the actual name of the OS so when a user is dual booting or loading up the disk into their computer, it displays the name of my operating system and not "Ubuntu 10.04".

I have done quite a bit of research and haven't found any results. It would be great if I could get some answers here.

Hey unfortunately I don't know enough about OS devlopment to help you with any of your questions. The only thing I can think of is on question 3 use grep to go through the source code and you would have to replace where it says ubuntu with what you want.

My question is why you would want to do this. Trisquel is already ubuntu derived and FSF approved. Would your distro do something that trisquel doesn't or have some feature that sets it apart? According to this:

"You may find them helpful if you would like to develop your own free GNU/Linux distribution—although we recommend joining development of an existing free distro rather than fragmenting effort by starting a new one."

Hi,

It's good to see you are devoted to contribute to the Free Software world, i appreciate that. But why make a new distro?
I think it would be better to help Trisquel development instead of forking a distro again.

What do you think? :)

Regarding both the comments above, I'd appreciate if you would read the following forum post (external website):

As for this post, please just answer the questions, I don't want to debate the usefulness or justify reasons as to why AOSDT (http://aosdt.org) is making a new distribution.
