LXDE vs. XFCE: search functionality

Apparently one cannot search LXDE menus but according to https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/main-menu-alternatives the LXDE panel can be replaced by an XFCE panel which can be 'upgraded' with Whisker (which has search functionality).
Question: Why would one do that rather than replace the entire DE?
