Hello! It's been a while since I was last active here.

Anyhow, due to the pandemic I have been dabbling in some home recording and I'm happy to report that the recently released M-Audio Air 192|4 audio interface is compatible with Trisquel 9 (4.15.0-118-generic). Here is a link to the product page: https://m-audio.com/air-192-4 .

The hardware I'm using is the new Penguin D Mini (Intel J4105, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD) https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-d-mini-edition-gnu-linux-desktop . My DAW of choice is Ardour5 installed right from the Trisquel 9 repositories. I have tested recording audio and MIDI tracks without any issues. My use case does not involve many plugins, so I think the system specs are sufficient.

As far as audio interfaces go, is there anything to watch out for regarding free software compatibility? I've seen some which are marketed as "class compliant" -- are those generally free software compatible? I would be glad to hear of any audio recording experiences that you might have, cheers!

Yes. Anything that class compliant should work out out of the box. Vendors often do not know or care about GNU/Linux compatibility, so they don't always advertise their hardware as "Linux compatible" even if it is, but if they "class compliant" then it should work.

M-Audio interfaces are generally class compliant. Focusrite is generally good too. Stay away from MOTU.
