Hello guys!!

I've installed Trisquel Mini into an old computer (AMD Atholon Processor, 899 Mhz 192MB RAM, 20 GB HD) and it seems to work better than the previous WinXp.
However, I do have problems with Midori. It goes TOO slow and doesn't seem to cope with the system... Everything else work more or less fine, some things faster than others, but they work. But Midori take ages to load webpages and to close them... I cannot fully load gmail either...
So, what can I do? Should I use other web browser? Which one? Can you advise me one? I need to be able to watch youtube videos and load gmail completely...
I hope you can help me!!!

Thanks!! by the way, I'm using Trisquel (the full version) in other computer, and I love it!!

PS. I have posted the same issue somewhere, but I think I didn't select any forum, so I don't think anyone can see it... so I reposted it here... sorry for the mess

Disabling JavaScript and using separate programs for videos and mail
could be faster.

I use WatchVideo [0] and VLC to watch YouTube videos instead of Gnash.
Programs like VLC are more optimized to playing videos (an additional
advantage of this solution is possibility to save the files and
support for some sites which don't work with current Gnash).

Most features of GMail are available in mail clients using IMAP. I use
Claws Mail, but not with GMail and on machines with more memory.

Yeah, I currently have my gmail account set up in Evolution, but I don't think Evolution is included by default in Trisquel Mini.

Hi akirashinigami! I haven't tried Evolution, but Chrome saved me instead... thanks for your reply!

There's a video replacer and Mozilla addon called FlashVideoReplacer ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161869/ ). It requires that you have Flash/Gnash and a player like Totem or MPlayer, but it really works well with both. It's also pretty fast.

Hi Mithrandir:

I like your nickname! do you think this FlashVideoReplacer works with Chrome? I'd give it a try... thanks!!

Hi Michał,
Thanks for your reply! I'm sorry I haven't replied earlier! I've been busy and haven't had time to check the forum.

I've been advised to use Chrome instead of Midori and for me it works pretty faster. At least regarding the gmail account and chat.

About Youtube, Chrome does load them, but still very slow. I've tried WatchVideo and it seems to load the videos really fast. I like it! The only thing is that the computer is for my nephew and he is too young for that kind of software (i.e. to get the URL, copy it and paste it in WatchVideo) and probably he's not patient enough.... ;) Anyways, it's a cool software, thanks for the tip!

Just so you know Chrome is non-free software.

However, Chromium itself is.

"Only Chromium, which Google Chrome is based on, is open source; the
additional features Google adds to Chrome, such as H.264 and ACC
decoding, the built-in PDF viewer, an auto-updater system among other
things are closed-source."

Chromium is still blacklisted for a 100% free software distro. These are the reasons:

(1) Copyright or license of some code is unclear
(2) Links to proprietary plugins.

Ok, thank you all! I didn't know Chromium was blacklisted. Good to know! Thanks!
