Mobile messenger not associated with phone number?
I'm looking for a mobile messenger not associated with a phone number. I don't want to be added by a lot of people. I just want to chat with a few people.
I use Surespot, but it has a lot of delay in my case. Do you know some alternative?

Conversations is a great one that is battery friendly. It's also XMPP with many options of encryption like OTR, OEIMO, and OpenPGP. Also can be used with Orbot proxy and it's regularly updated on F-Droid. I suppose with XMPP clients though you need to find a server to use them on.
Also Riot is good I believe too.
