My ISP says I am using 80-110 GB per day ?

Hi Everyone

I had to sign up with an unlimited plan with my ISP today. My 270 GB per
month plan was not holding up. I might use youtube for 30-60 minutes in
a day and otherwise just generally surf. They are saying I am using over
100 GB per day sometimes and this does not seem possible by a factor of 10X.

Is anyone else having an issue? I am in Canada and my ISP is Rogers. The
rep said they have had problems before with modems consuming bandwidth
before.

Thanks-Patrick

Hm... by my calculations, assuming the most you can transfer is 15 Mb/second, the absolute limit to the amount of data you could transfer is about 173 GB in a day. This is assuming downloading or uploading something at that speed every second, 24 hours a day.

I guess you could be uploading 100 GB a day if you've got several torrents constantly seeding in the background, or something, in combination with a really fast connection.

exactly and thanks for the calculation! I bet this will turn out to be
an error in how they track usage.

Have a great day

Well. There are errors and then there are 'errors' ;)

You can always monitor your own usage and see how it compares.

I have the lines on my conky file for upload and download speed along with the upload and download amount of data. I download on average 1.5 gb of data per day. 100 gb seems crazy to me unless you are torrenting like 100 movies each day..

My ISP does troll our download.

I know exactly what you are talking about and in my own experience to counter and finding a better solution to this matter, that does affects millions of users, is best to use some sort secure VPN provider.

Your ISP can not tract your usage, if you are using a secure VPN.

The problem is that some VPN providers do not allowed torrents and limited in their usage. Read the VPN service contracts and research properly what is available from your geographic area.

I do pay 25 dollars a month for unlimited usage for 5 pc and my VPN provider is located in Singapore.
I don't use torrents, neither download movies or shows, but I do stream from different servers the latest movies and cable shows that I desire to watch without incidents. All this is done using VPN.

For music I record the songs or play list of my own taste using AUDACITY. For others that will be hard to do, but I enjoy editing my own music using GNU programs.

I hope this helps.
