People seem to talk a lot about browsers here.

There is a new site promoting Icecat and providing binaries for GNU/Linux (and other OSes).

Update!
The deb file doesn't work with trisquel due the lower version of libc (needs 2.36).
Should work in current stable Gnuinos (Devuan and Debian) though.

The tarball should work just fine with Trisquel, however.

Hello nparafe,

thank you for the website!

I installed the .deb-file on Debian Stable (Bookworm) and it works just fine.

Very nice to have Icecat back, the last time i used it was on Trisquel 7.

I am forwarding the response I got from the dev
----
>I think I managed to compile Icecat for Trisquel.

I made it available on the website, you can find it here:
https://icecatbrowser.org/assets/uploads/2023/11/icecat-115.5.0-GNULinux-Trisquel.tar.gz

I just installed Trisquel and built it from there.
Thank you very much for your advises.
I hope this works for all Trisquel users.

Chip.

I tested it and IceCat now works fine in Trisquel

there is also this note in https://icecatbrowser.org/ :

> 28 nov 2023 17:45:00 CET: The problem with libc on Trisquel should be solved now, in the download page an archive for Trisquel can be found. It is not packaged yet as i only tested it on a vm and I will package it as soon as i have some feedback. Thanks, sorry for the delay...

Welcome to the forum!
Do you have any plans for a future repository?

Maybe Trisquel devs can consider adding gnu Icecat as an official package someday?

Hi, thanks, I really like this board .
I would like to be able to provide official packaging, just recently I asked on the Debian board if I could maintain Icecat, still didn't hear back.

But there is something that maybe you guys can help me with:
I would like to have an effective and practical way for users to ask questions and in general engage with me about Icecat.
I thought about anonymous comments, but i believe that moderating it is going to be a lot of work.
At same time I don't want to force users to have an account on some third party website AND I would really like to avoid holding on any users data.

Can you think of something that we could use for this? Self hosted would be ideal so someone who already visited the website does not need to visit another one.

Thank you all very much in advance.

Just reaching out to let you know that a new version 115.7.0 is now available.
Of course there is a build for Trisquel too.

Have a great day.
