This means the latest NVIDIA cards will soon be usable with Nouveau on GNU/Linux, but with proprietary signed firmware. What do you think?

I guess a libre driver with proprietary firmware is better than a proprietary driver, but that's rather like saying that tooth decay is better than not having teeth at all.

Forget that blobbed crap (900 series), and get Kepler cards.

Nvidia will only release signed firmware due to their mentality of keeping their hardware "safe" by locking out anyone and everyone from writing firmware that could potentially leave the hardware open to potential security vulnerabilities. Of course that is their viewpoint and not mine as having the firmware open under the bazaar model will benefit them.

Bank notes don't count as hardware? :)
