Do you mean pen tablets used for digital drawing, handwriting notes, or photo retouching? If so, there is a built-in support for Wacom products in the GNOME desktop environment (Main Menu → System Settings → Wacom Tablet).

Graphics tablets should work in many free softwares including GIMP, Inkscape and Krita.

I got a wacom tablet and it appears to work.
