It's good that you offer this as many PPAs on Launchpad stopped offering the latest VLC for Ubuntu 14.04/Trisquel 7.
If all else fails, Abrowser plays the newer WebM spec and you can use that to play in a pinch. If you aren't sure, there is http://beta.html5test.com to check.

You should add this upstream, instead of in your repo.
Try following the new and shiny contributing guidelines , and don't worry to ask if you need help.
