Question about ungoogled-chromium as second browser
Hi all,
I saw a very helpful post by Magic Banana in a recent thread "Packages in Trisquel 11 (or any other)" and wonder if ungoogled-chromium is confirmed to be fully libre.
Also, can I still use the commands Magic Banana listed (for Trisquel 10 and 11)?

This is a controversial question. My very limited understanding is that it was not confirmed to be libre, it is so big that no one could fully check. It is in Guix though, and a number of reasonable people think it should not be there.

I imagined that would be the case, what a pity though, I was planning to download my lost photos and videos via ungoogled-chromium... they go back many years, most of them deleted from dropbox (another one to sort, for newer photos).
Also, I am aiming to keep google out of Abrowser, if possible. Could there be way around to consider? Must say I wasn't so keen in using a second profile when I last tried it, I think a dedicated browser for the purpose would be ideal (good reminder to self too).

The repository I gave does not exist anymore. You can go with the Flatpak on Flathub. If you have not installed flatpak, that would be executing the following commands in a terminal:
$ sudo apt install flatpak
$ flatpak remote-add --subset=floss flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
$ flatpak install flathub com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium

No, with pre-compiled software (such as in the previous repository or in Flathub), downloading takes most of the time. You need to trust whoever compiled the software though. I used the "floss" subset in the command above. Using "verified_floss" would not provide you Ungoogled Chromium because the developers of Ungoogled Chromium have not directly provided the Flatpak nor approved who built it. There was was the same trust issue with the repository I originally gave.
Like Avron, I am unsure that Ungoogled Chromium is entirely free software and do not understand your rationale for not using Abrowser.

I see that :), YES, I couldn't explain that rationale to myself either. I guess I am relaxing on the paranoia and will be rethinking things going forwards. This helped!
For starters, Abrowser can probably handle google better than any other browser out there!

If you just want to download some files from an old Dropbox or an old google drive or an old gmail account or something like that, you should be able to just open a "Private Window" in Abrowser and do it from there. Once you are done you close the Private Window and all the Google cookies and local files and stuff should be automatically deleted. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

I wondered if sites like google and dropbox would work on private windows, but can't recall why I didn't test it... I'll sure do it next.
I recommend you to download your data and delete your Google account. Here is the tutorial for that (It is a fairly easy process). You'll be amazed about how much of your personal data Google has stored!

I've been considering doing that, but started downloading in chunks instead, as the data is humongous (going back to 2011). Also, there are other accounts to resurrect which use that gmail, like dropbox... there may yet be others to discover while going through the huge list of old gmails! So, holding my horses :)
Have to laugh at myself for being in this position, but am happy that I'm laughing from a much better place.
You are right; I thought you might be interested in knowing that Google lets you download all of your data in a single compressed file. After downloading that, One may start deleting one's data from Google servers.
Next I need to learn about libre phones :)
I've been taking a closer look at the project, notes and some testing on it.
