Quick question about the ThinkPenguin LibreCMC router
Is this router based off of the Rosewill RNX-N300RT or RNX-N300RTv2 router? The LibreCMC page just says N300RT (http://librecmc.org/librecmc/wiki?name=TPE-NWIFIROUTER2), but the OpenWRT wiki (http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd) says that the TPE-NWIFIROUTER2 is based off of v2.
Does chris or anyone else know what the TPE-NWIFIROUTER2 is exactly based off of?
Mine has written "ver2.0.0" under the first bar code. But the main title has no "V2" written on. I recieved it a few weeks ago.
The LibreCMC and OpenWRT sites don't do a great job explaining or emphasizing the problems with flashing random routers like this. However they do have disclaimers which I guess should indicate that its not for the faint of heart.
In any event it's not so simple to flash a router as to get the right model or version. There are also different revision boards and even within a revision you can run into problems. We run into issues all the time testing boards. Boards which are near-identical boards and of the same manufacturing run (ie same revision boards, one produced right after another). Sometimes you can clearly see the differences if you look really closely (different flash chips, factory suddenly started soldering the serial ports, etc).
As far as the Rosewill board above I'm 99.5% certain your going to have to get around the digital restrictions at a minimum first with a chip clip and mini single board computer. It'll probably run another $75-$100 USD. I don't believe they were doing this with an earlier firmware version. However I believe all manufacturers using a compatible board are doing this now/or when they were in use in the routers.
