Hi,

I am a new user to Trisquel, My laptop has a Wifi Module that does not have a Free driver, so I need either a USB or PCMCIA Dongle.

I don't know which one works the best with this OS, so can some one recommend me one? Preferably on the cheaper side as I am a full time college student with VERY limited income.

Hello,

Welcome to Trisquel, I hope you are finding it to be a nice distribution despite the inconvenience of the wifi not working. I would reccomend several options.

1. You can purchase a wifi card from Think Pengun for around $44. You will get a fully functioning wireless USB card and 25% of your purchase will be donated to Trisquel to help support the project.

2. If that is too expensive, you can check out H-node which is a database of hardware that supports free software. They have a comprehensive list of wireless usb cards that work with trisquel and you can usually find one on ebay for around $10. I personally picked up a Netgear wireless usb card from ebay for $8 and it works just fine.

I hope that you find a card that fits your budget and your needs. Thanks for using trisquel and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Definitely Think Penguin.

They have the only wireless N solution I can find that can be used by 100% free software with no non-free drivers or firmware.

They have a router as well with DD-WRT pre-installed.
