Hello,

I have problem with Trisquel 7, 32 bits.

I have Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop. The maximum resolution is 1280x800, but i can't choice this resolution. I have 2 choices 800x600 and 1024x768.

I don't have this problem on Trisquel 6.
The videocard is ATI x1400.

I tried to modify xorg.conf but the computer restart in console mode.
I tried to update linux-libre but i lost wifi.
I tried to install resolution changer but i can't add this one to the menu bar.

lspci -vmmnn :

Slot: 01:00.0
Class: VGA compatible controller [0300]
Vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] [1002]
Device: RV515/M54 [Mobility Radeon X1400] [7145]
SVendor: Dell [1028]
SDevice: Device [2003]

Thank you very much !

If I properly understand the page 157 of ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/Common/inspiron-6400x_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf then your processor includes an Intel 945 GM graphical chipset. If you can use it, you will have much better performances (including 3D acceleration, video decoding acceleration, etc.) for a reduced power consumption. One way i to physically remove the AMD video card.

But check first that you indeed have the Intel graphical chipset. The 'lspci' command should list it.

Are all Intel graphics cards free-software-friendly?

If not, is there a list somewhere that shows which are (or are not) free software friendly?

I believe the powervr based cards aren't free software friendly, here's a list of those http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Intel_graphics_processing_units#PowerVR_based

This is a problem with the newer AMD drivers forcing KMS, which requires nonfree microcode. It would be good to use the Intel chipset, but otherwise you can try downgrading some packages.

It's an old enough Radeon for the approach from
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-70-flash-disk-and-amd-raedonlimited-resolution
to possibly work: unblacklist the radeon module from /etc/modprobe.d,
run update-initramfs -u and reboot.

Hi,
I too had a similar problem. Max resolution is 1366x768 but Trisquel shows only 1024x768. Video card is ATI Mobile radeon 4570

$ lspci | grep 'VGA '
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV710/M92 [Mobility Radeon HD 4530/4570/545v]

Tried commenting blacklist radeon on /etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf. But problem not yet fixed.
Xorg log file http://pastebin.com/gzShtZB0

Any Solution

Thank you

Did you remember to run this after un/commenting?

sudo update-initramfs -u

I believe it's needed,

I upgraded to 7.0 and could never get the video issue solved with my Radeon. Ended up going back to 6.0.

As far as I know getting native screen resolution with recent kernels and ati crap is simply not possible..
