The Hurd with DWM with the Links2 browser.

This is pretty cool.

Trisquel needs a Hurd version.

Did you experiment with netsurf?

Unlike links2, it shows trisquel website nearly like abrowser (but using far less resources). The most important annoyance is the change of the light grey background to almost black, with text very hard to read on it. I wish I knew a solution for this. I am posting this message using netsurf.

I've used Netsurf in the past but it wouldn't install on Debian Hurd edition due to dependency errors. In fact, almost no browser would install except Links2, Luakit and Surf, and Luakit and Surf wouldn't render web pages properly (I think they are using a very old version of webkit) and so I just used Links2.

Regarding Netsurf, I have enjoyed using it in the past on Trisquel. But that color layout for the Trisquel forum would be a big problem for me. Are you using the latest "Continuous Integration" Debian package from Netsurf's website? https://ci.netsurf-browser.org/builds/

I found that the versions in most distro's repos are old and buggy, and that the latest continuous integration version works better and usually has a lot of bug fixes. I see that the latest deb package for Debian Bullseye, which should hopefully install OK on Trisquel, was released just two weeks ago: https://ci.netsurf-browser.org/debian/bullseye/amd64/?C=M;O=D. I think you have to pull down 2 or 3 packages - maybe netsurf, netsurf-gtk, and netsurf-common and install them all at the same time with a command like 'sudo apt install ./netsurf*'. Something like that - it might take some experimenting.

This seems to be all completely libre software. vrms concurs - nothing from any non-free or contrib repos. There's no chromium or any obviously non-free or questionably non-free programs that I can find.

I need to dig through /lib for any non-free firmware blobs, but vrms is pretty good at finding non-free firmware on systems.

Mr. Andy, will you be posting one of your excellent posts on how you did the install? Last year I was encouraged that Hurd was getting workable but it still seemed to be a steep uphill climb to get it working. Haven't looked into it since.

Here comes the hurd:

Mind the non-free firmware, though.

I can't find any non-free firmware. Did you find some? I wrote a post above this about my inability to find non-free firmware, even though I expected to see some.

Better safe than sorry.
