Secure XMPP/Jabber service, running over a free software server.

Hello everyone.

I wonder if anyone knows XMPP/Jabber servers running over free software (free O.S.), that is: their servers are computers with free software; and also respect at "100%" user's privacy. That is: not to allow third parties to intervene communications, or themselves have no access to them, or at least they say they will not access or have access to, basically the obvious: username and password.

If you know XMPP/Jabber servers that support video and/or calls, better.

I'm not looking for programs (clients), like Pidgin, for example.

Right now, the user SuperTramp83 told me about:

- riseup.net
- neko.im

Thanks for your time.

I apologise for my bad english.

You can install a free XMPP server on one of your systems. Trisquel's repository has several of them: prosody, jabberd2, ejabberd.

Diaspora also includes an XMPP account: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaspora_%28social_network%29

Either I have no idea how to access it or this is only true for certain pods. I'm pretty sure the pod I'm on is up-to-date.

If you want your messages hidden from the server, you will need off-the-record messaging or another form of encryption.

I use Tor + DuckDuckGo + OTR to do my XMPP communications.

Thank you guys!

It was really helpfull.

I didn't think in OTR. You was right. Is the best option.
XMPP with OTR and Tor is also a good option.
Maybe in the future I would make my own server.

Any way, I share this: https://xmpp.net/directory.php
It is a lot of XMPP/Jabber servers.

Thanks again!

Openmailbox.org are endorsed as an email carrier by the Free Software Foundation, and they also run an XMPP server. I haven't tried it yet though.

Another alternative may be to look into tox, a distributed chat client.

Tox is alpha non-audited software. It is not a safe alternative. I hope it will be in a year or two.

OK, thanks for the clarification.
