Hi everyone,

I want to set up an OTRS Server with Trisquel. I have choosen the netinstaller, but I am not sure which kernel to use. What's the difference between Linux-generic and Linux-image-generic? Or do I have to use the virtual kernel?

I found the solution by myself. I should have clicked on "Installation" instead of "Installing Trisquel on a Server" in the documentation, as last one is outdated and did not help me. Maybe this should be changed.

It's a wiki. All users of Trisquel can edit it. If you think you know better, go ahead and make it say so.

"linux-generic" is a metapackage that depends on both "linux-image-generic" and "linux-headers-generic", which are themselves metapackages that depend on the latest available version (in Trisquel's repository) of the kernel and of its headers.

So, the difference is that, installing "linux-generic" rather than only "linux-image-generic", you additionally get the headers. You do not need them unless you want to install additional drivers.

The so-called "virtual" kernels do not seem to exist anymore. The related metapackages depend on "generic" kernels.
