same, and same old for me, I'm very pleased with it so I'll just keep it like this forever :P
Minor changes are: I quit using any compositor (muh performance..), it's all fake transparency here). I also quit using plank and went back to a standard xfce panel set to autohide.
Dulcis in fundo I replaced xfwm with openbox. System has never been snappier \o/
Btw the arc theme for openbox is very nicely fitting.

No, I just made it more minimalistic by making the background (sky) one plain color (it was shaded).
I haven't got the original anymore though nor do I know the license of it, but yes, you can 'steal' it just as I did. You wouldn't want to believe the great scam copyright is, right? ;)

JWM (Joe's Window Manager)

JWM is a light-weight window manager for the X11 Window System. JWM is written in C and uses only Xlib at a minimum. Because of its small footprint, JWM makes a good window manager for older computers and less powerful systems, such as the Raspberry Pi, though it is perfectly capable of running on modern systems. JWM is included in small Gnu/Linux distributions such as Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux, and it is available as a separate package in Trisquel, Uruk & many other distributions.

No configs, that is stock Debian Jessie 9.2 with JWM(2.3.6-1)
https://packages.debian.org/stable/jwm

Very nice indeed, and very lightweight, 'purrs' like a cat at around 80mb..;-)
Compared to other light WM, like FVWM or Openbox, the Jwm consumes considerably less memory while providing the same functionality.

I like FVWM, but do you do actual work in this primitive environment?

loldier
Offline

Define "work". It's no more primitive than, say, Openbox or i3, which are all available alongside any old DE. OpenBSD's own native cwm Calm Window Manager is non-obtrusive and smooth.

OpenBSD has all the bells and whistles you'll ever need. Eyecandy has little if anything to do with "productivity" if that's the implication.

There's the Pager (multiple virtual screens), a launcher menu for programs, Xterm to invoke commands, configure and run binaries. There's a file manager if you need one (terminal does the same thing).

It's robust and up-to-date. While I understand OBSD's principal raison d'être is networking and servers, it's a plausible desktop OS as well.

I can rip and burn CDs & DVDs, watch movies & listen to music, connect to other computers and the Internet, open and write documents, install, compile & run programs. OpenBSD supports wifi and Ethernet but not Bluetooth, most periferals and hardware are recognized and they "just work".

Maybe you should try OpenBSD to find out more.

That's interesting, but I use Bluetooth a lot for listening to music while doing chores and controlling Kodi while watching movies.

Also for using game controllers to play Maryo.

I installed the i3 via synaptic package manager after recommendation from a friend. But how do I activate it?

it's a keyboard Tiling Manager, similar to Ratpoison for adavanced users

quite like wmii

xmonad

Much easier to use is jwm, and dwm

Activate? You mean how to change from one DE to i3wm? Log out; there's a small gear on the login (LightDM) screen. Click on that and choose i3.

You won't see much after loging in but a blank page. Proceed according to the user guide.

But please read the userguide. i3 will be useless for you if you do not read the manual! If you still want to try it without reading the manual, once you are stuck in i3, press either [windows key][shift][e] or [alt][shift][e] (at the same time) to get a prompt to exit i3, then click on the exit button with your mouse and read the manual :)

i3 is very powerful, but you'll need to learn to set it up and use it! If you do and you enjoy tiling window managers, you'll be very glad you did!

Edit: Used angle brackets by mistake :|

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Androids_Dream_of_Electric_Sheep%3F

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (retitled Blade Runner: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? in some later printings) is a science fiction novel by American writer Philip K. Dick, first published in 1968. The novel is set in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, where Earth's life has been greatly damaged by nuclear global war. Most animal species are endangered or extinct from extreme radiation poisoning, so that owning an animal is now a sign of status and empathy, an attitude encouraged towards animals. The book served as the primary basis for the 1982 film Blade Runner.

The main plot follows Rick Deckard, a bounty hunter who is tasked with "retiring" (i.e. killing) six escaped Nexus-6 model androids, while a secondary plot follows John Isidore, a man of sub-par IQ who aids the fugitive androids. In connection with Deckard's mission, the novel explores the issue of what it is to be human. Unlike humans, the androids are said to possess no sense of empathy.
