A statistics software
Greetings ladies and Gentlemen.
I need a program like minitab:
To make some basic statistics about some data I've collected.
Could you recommend me a free as in freedom alternative?
I've heard about R, but I think R is like killing mosquitoes with ground-air missiles. I need to get the results without loosing much time (R is powerful but requires time to learn and I don't have that right now).

KNIME is not only about basic statistics but also about data-mining: http://knime.org

A similar GPL platform that I mainly know by name is Orange: http://orange.biolab.si
R is a full-featured language and, I agree, there is a learning curve. Anyway you may want to use a GUI on top of it. Again, I am more into data-mining, and I know of Rattle that you may like: http://rattle.togaware.com
What about GNU PSPP? I've never used it, but it looks good.

I want to share with you the fact that Gnumeric has statistics modules built in, so you can use it, and it is very effective:
My best solution was learning R, It's hard for me to express in words how wonderful this program is.

The built in statistics module in Gnumeric is powerful and easy to use. Not a lot of people know about it and it is much more robust than what LibreOffice calc has to offer.
I agree that R is amazing and the way to go for basic or advanced statistics, despite the steep learning curve.
