Stretched Visual Format

What are your screen resolution and the resolution indicated in "Displays" (in "System settings")?

What is your GPU? The following command, executed in a terminal, would tell:
$ lspci | grep VGA

I bet my cat pictures collection you have an ATI GPU :)

The only fix is, not to use Ati/AMD GPUs cuz these GPUs won't run with free software, only does Nvidia(the best is kepler) and Intel(before skylake).

This is because Ati/AMD needs a non-free data blob. And no one will reverse engineering it I think, cuz we have much alternatives.

I think that you are not able to run flawlessly a 720-1080p video.

The terminal response to the recommended command is: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RS482M [Mobility Radeon Xpress 200]
My System Settings Display page says I have "1024 X 768 (4:3)" and offers no other option.
Mario's problems in earlier forum issue recommendation hasn't cleared up anything for me.
I should point out that in the Trisquel previous to 7.0 I had no problem.

All you can do is the downgrade of the kernel to one that is 3.10 or older. 3.10 ended support (no security fixes) so the best you can do is install 3.4 from jxself repository, or compile 3.4 libre on you own.

1. Ok. Wait a minute. Would this problem be solved by getting a new Processor? And isn't that a relatively easy replacement fix? Unscrew the back of the laptop, leverage the processor, replace?

The link https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ looks like an interesting project. I'll likely be studying this for a few days. I will report to this forum issue what the results are.

I went to "jxself.org APT Repository for Linux-libre" to find instructions for the replacement of my kernel. Ugh! Right off I run into problems: I'm supposed to edit /etc/apt/sources.list . This document/file seems unlikely to be editable but the file next to it /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade seems by its content to be the one I want. Unfortunately, I don't have permissions to edit it. I tried editing via terminal with sudo but couldn't get through.

Sorry for my programming duncitude but how do I get permissions to add a line of text to /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade?

Following the instructions of jxself.org I opened the terminal and 1) edited the /etc/apt/sources.list 2)fetched and installed GPG key 3)configured the package manager to trust the key 4)updated 5) found out my system supports PAE 6) put this command in: dln -s /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg and 6.a) I'm getting back: bash: dln: command not found

Now I will restart

I restarted and my Stretched Visual Format problems is still not solved.

ln -s /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg

Here's the terminal output:

ln: failed to create symbolic link ‘/boot/grub/libreboot_grub.cfg’: File exists

rebooted. No change to stretched visual format.
