The USB adapter I gave my brother after installing Trisquel 9 on his laptop stopped working. I recommended him https://www.ebay.com/itm/Atheros-AR9271-802-11n-150Mbps-Wireless-USB-WiFi-Adapter-For-Linux-Kali-U8M1/313217252667 and, now that he has received and tried it, I can affirm that it works. The vendor behind the link does not have it anymore but some other vendors do, on the same site.

Thank you, Magic Banana. One more freedom friendly hardware! Did you write that adapter on h-node.org?

There is an ocean separating me from the device. But I will suggest my brother-in-law to do so. I just searched AR9271 on the website in question and bet the vendor was not lying. I wish more vendors would indicate the chipset in this way.

Hi, Magic. I have do similar research weeks ago (<< https://trisquel.info/it/forum/scheda-wi-fi-non-funziona-wireless-come-risolvere-low-cost >>), and find
that:
<< http://tp-link.eu/Wireless_adapter_N_USB_2_0_TP-Link_TL-WN821N,produkt-06433.htm >>
This is also on h-node, but I suppose there are better an more fast (not in list) on commerce. But not much vendor indicate the chipset.... Many vendor on Ama/Bay said they "amazing" products (usb3.0 - 600/1200Mbps - etc...) works on distro like kali (and I don't know why, don't will do it), but I can't find serious specific about our chipset, also in vendor's web site. If you find more info write, I'm interesing :-)
