swfdec 0.92 and youtube
Has anyone noticed that youtube videos don't seem to be working?
For example this won't work:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jknynk5vny8
But featured videos seem to be working like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoPBqde-M8E&feature=fvw
Anyone else having this problem?
I'm guessing they've made a change on their website that is causing
this.

This video does not work for me either (nor anyone of this particular song I have tried), though they usually work (not only featured ones). Might it be due to the format of those videos? For example this one of Janis Joplin does not work (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjD4eWEUgMM), while this one does (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7JVxE2SYxo).
By the way, has anyone tried to open a video in Totem from the search results in youtube (from the sidebar of Totem, I mean)? I have tried to but it returns a message error.
Sames happens to me, and megavideo videos do not work too, for me the
previous version of swfdec worked better, I was able to see almost of
the videos, megavideo included and all of youtube except for the HD ones
wich I had to deactivate it.

Useful workaround: http://tinyvid.tv

Thanks a lot for the workaround. First request for conversion submitted, waiting for the result.
There is the firefox plugin 'unplug' which is GPL'd and lets you easily
download videos from multiple sites.
I think it'd be better in the future if the browser did not come by
default with plugins that are still being heavily worked on.

Of course there's always youtube-dl, which is available through the repositories. Just enter "youtube-dl http://[youtube url here]" and it will download the video as an .flv file which totem can play.
Thanks a lot for the information, ewlabonte. I had recently installed "flashgot" but it does no seem to work either with those videos you can't play with swfdec, so youtube-dl is good news, at least to download videos you would like to keep. The good thing in my opinion, however, about tinyvid.tv is that when you request a video conversion you save trouble to others and help to create a database of "freed" videos. On the other hand I believe it is also a way to call the attention of youtube to the need to attend also the free software community (am I being too optimistic?).
To see youtube videos without using flash I recommend the greasemonkey
plugin (easily found on google) for "firefox" and 2 very useful scripts
for it called YouTube Perfect and YouTube Perfect - Embedded version,
this last one is just to see the videos embed on pages which are not of
youtube.

Great, aitux! It works perfectly on Youtube (I installed greasemonkey from Synaptic). I had actually installed greasemonkey before, but I did not know how to install scripts (nor what scripts), but the page of the author provides a button to easily install them. The links you provided are a very good solution. However, one of them is supposed to work on pages other than Youtube but it seems not to work on Metacafe nor Dailymotion. Should it work on those pages too?
Hi! Thanks!
Yes, it works on pages other than Youtube but not on Metacafe and
Dailymotion, maybe there are other useful scripts to do so, I'll take a
look. ;)

No, I refer to your messages without text. Right ? :))
Ahhh!! My crystal ball is telling me that you are using the forum to
read the messages, this won't happen anymore but if you want to read
that messages use the mail client instead it's better and faster :D
