synaptic: Added googler, ddgr, tor; can not get any to function

Running on Presario v3000, Trisuel_9.0_i686
I used synaptic package manager to download and install three packages, one at a time, Tor and dependencies, ddgr, and googler.
I rebooted.
None of the applications seem to work.
Tor, clicked on either Tor or Tor browser launcher from the desktop Menu list both try to download something? and fail stating possible attacker or missing signature.
Both googler and ddgr, after launching in a terminal will not return any results to a query, returning, "no results."
I had a connection and an 8.8.8.8 ping returns.
I am wondering if I need an exception in my firewall (no mention on sites that I checked for operating instructions and installation instructions) for all three of these applications, or is it something else with synaptic such as missing dependencies which are not called out.
In the past, I have never had a problem on this machine using Tor browser when installed. However, I don't remember having installed and running it from Trisquel, and definitely not from my current copies of 8.0 and 9.0.

I went to github and found a link to the program for googler.
I copied that program and pasted it in a /bin/file for both trisquel_8.0_i386 and trisquel_9.0_i686.
In both cases, I am able to search the web from the terminal launching and using googler.
While the application does launch abrowser and display the url page, that application will launch but not display the url on an alternative browser after having dessignating it as default browser. I would love to solve that problem.
I am not certain how to perform the same process for ddgr. This is important to me because google is slightly less preferred by me than duckduckgo, for.
It is still my question and issue as to what is happening with Synaptic Package Manager that is could not resolve to functional applications.

I went to github and found a link to the program source for ddgr.
I downloaded the tar.gz and extracted in its own directory, and then copied the executable into a /bin/file for trisquel_9.0_i686.
The application works.
I still cannot figure out how to get the url to load in the alternative browser once it has been initiated through ddgr or googler by commandline, when using a browser other than Abrowser.
The alternative browser, after having been allowed to designate itself as the 'default browser', does launch, but will not load and display the chosen url from googler.
Also, I did notice that the packages on github for differing distributions I was able to find for ddgr were all 64-bit.
There was also an explanation with ddgr regarding that versions are python version dependent. However, I am not sure if that was only a past issue for earlier versions.
The issue regarding synaptic package manager is not resolved for me as to why those installations failed to function.

Use deb package for Ubuntu 18.04 and gdebi to install newer versions. The older versions fail to fetch any results.

Tor Browser worked just fine. The package in Trisquel is a download helper.

I have both googler and ddgr working using the alternative method I mentioned above. I'll give those deb packages for Ubuntu 18.04 and gdebi (never used it before) to install on my next fresh Trisquel install.
My last look on github for ddgr seemed only to reveal 64-bit packages, but maybe I missed 32-bit packages page.
I will try Tor Browser download helper package again.

I re-tryed Tor Browser download (download helper) from Trisquel Add/Remove Applications.
When I try to launch the download helper, I receive this message again:
Tor Browser
SIGNATURE VERIFICATION FAILED!
Error Code: GENERIC_VERIFY_FAIL
You might be under attack, there might be a network problem, or you may be missing a recently added Tor Browser verification key......
I have no issues.
Hmm...do you think this could be a 64-bit vs. 32-bit issue?
Or is it because you already had the tor package installed?
After having a similar issue to yours, I uninstalled the Trisquel packages and downloaded the portable version from the Tor Project website [1]. You can launch it from the extracted folder or drag and drop the launcher icon on your favorite panel.
Updating is done through downloading the latest version whenever there is one.

Eventually I will do that.
I'll just put it on a flashdrive (I think I read that is an option).
For a couple of reasons, I would like to resolve this issue with Trisquel's Synaptic Package Manager.
1. It is the third straight package that has failed to function after download/install.
2. It is one less additional source to trust. I would rather guess at picking one rather than two, and more.

I downloaded the tor gpg key from the tor site download page per their instructions.
I even exported the key to the current path, per their instructions.
I re-download Tor Browser Launcher from Synaptic, including the recommended dependencies.
Then, same result as above when trying to install from the Launcher.
I am unclear on the process of downloading twice the Tor Browser file as well as the Launcher.
Is automated key verification, which according to the error message is the failure, having issue due to a permissions conflict?
Why does the Tor Browser Launcher Settings allow me to proceed to download without asking for (sudo) password?

My last post didn't make it for some reason. I'll try to re-iterate.
I downloaded torbrowser tar.gz and .asc 32-bit from torproject website (I hope).
Torbrowser on flashdrive works.
Aside: gpg from trisquel_8.0 would not work properly to download and verify signature. Possibly it was due to some missing options or other incompatible. gpg from triquel_9.0 worked fine and verified signature. However, since it is downloaded from a single website and not a public keyserver repository, who knows what I am using.
