It won't be very complex, but at least it will be based on 16.04 and MATE. Details to follow.

Hopefully, Trisquel 9 will shortly follow after.

Don't do this. If you really want to do something useful, join the Trisquel development team and help Trisquel.

I am a little bit puzzled by the number of posts coming from the same small number of people complaining about Trisquel 8 is not here and so on.
I have it installed on my laptop that I am using in this moment and my main machine at home since quite a while.

@ylevental did you try Trisquel 8? If not why not and if not why are you creating so many posts complaining and not even trying?
As suggested the best here would be installing Trisquel 8 and testing it, using it. In the process you would also enjoy it, since I am enjoying using it everyday.

Hello ivanB1975,

i gave Trisquel 8 a try on my Thinkpad T61 and i'm very happy with it.

My problem is, that i couldn't establish a Wifi Connection with my Wifi USB Stick from Technoetical. In T7 it works out of the box.

Maybe you have an idea for me to manage that problem?

Thanks

Mhm it could be that the modules needed for the wifi are not loaded. You could check the version of the hardware and the needed module and check if it is loaded. I guess you have knowledge of bash and commands correct?

i'm the so called average joe user without good knowledge of bash and the commands, that's my problem. :-(

Hello again,

im using this wifi usb stick:

Technoethical TET-N300 adapters are refurbished TP-Link TL-WN821N adapters sold under our own brand, with a guarantee that the TET-N300 version ships with the Atheros AR7010+AR9287 integrated circuits that use free software drivers and firmware; we can make no guarantees that other versions of the TL-WN821N will ship with the same chipset.

Is open-ath9k-htc-firmware installed?

Hello mason,

this is the firmware package i need, yes.

As far as i understood, i have to open the synaptic package manager, search for it and install it, but when i open the synaptic package manager i can't find the open-ath9k-htc-firmware package.

So i made a search in the internet and found this debian webpage:

https://wiki.debian.org/ath9k_htc/open_firmware

I tried to follow the instructions and everything went well until it came to point 6. Install the firmware, this command didn't work.

So you see, i tried to solve the problem by my own.

But nevertheless, i'm also happy with my Trisquel 7 install or i can use it with a lan connection.

For me as a newbie it will be better until the next Trisquel version is launched.

Thanks

What is the error?
maybe the command is "sudo cp target_firmware/*.fw /lib/firmware/ && exit"

Have you tried installing Trisquel 7's .deb package, either with 'sudo dpkg -i' or double-clicking on the file after installing GDebi? Here it is: http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/o/open-ath9k-htc-firmware/open-ath9k-htc-firmware_1.3-1_all.deb

does asking APT to upgrade packages change that package's version? (if it does you can always lock it)

That's an old package. Use this one instead: https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/firmware-ath9k-htc/download
