Themes in Trisquel

Hello all again,

I have been looking into trying to change my login theme, and maybe even adding some shell themes to trisquel, the only thing is that it doesn't seem to be the easy drag and drop of Ubuntu and the rest of Gnome... Is there something I have to install, a different process, or anything?

Thanks,

Hi grimlok,

The Login Manager is GDM so the only things that you can (easily at least) change is the wallpaper - and even for that "simple" task you will need few terminal commands. Otherwise you can use another Login Manager like lightDM (used in Ubuntu for example) which can provide more functionalities and can be found on the repositories.

As for the themes of the DE (Desktop Environment) itself what you need to do is the fallowing :

Trisquel Menu > System Settings > Appearance

Right click on the Desktop > Change Desktop Backgrund

Then in the bottom right just select the Combobox saying "Trisquel (default)" and change it for another one.

If the ones pre-installed don't convince you, simply download new ones. On exemple is the Ubuntu default themes which you can download like this on the terminal :

sudo apt-get install light-themes

or by searching "light-themes" in Synaptic Package Manager

Best Regards,
Luis

I was hoping to be able to take themes I found on the internet and install them.

Not just the pre-packaged ones found in synaptic...

Well you can do that. You just need to download a GTK3 theme and copy it in the /usr/share/themes folder (in order to have it for all users) or in the ~/.local/share/themes folder if you want to use it with only one account.

Trisquel uses gtk3.4, so be sure you get a theme that's compatible :)
