There are old-school 2D games in Trisquel's repository:

Super useless. It'd be better to have this. 3D?

There was SlamSoccer 2006. It was a fun game, but there were so many bugs....!!! It was never developed further...

It seems better... but it is not something I play but our customers do. Bugs are fatal. I would have to return the money to them if these things happened:
from their website (https://www.bolzplatz2006.de/en/faq.php),

Problems with Slam Soccer 2006

I can only see a single-colored block instead of the stadium (e.g. red or white).
The game crashes at the beginning and shows an error message about a "log.txt". In this file (quite at the bottom) I can find "ERROR" and "com.xenoage.bp2k6.Main threw an exception: OpenAL error: Invalid Value".
Why isn't it possible to use the keyboard for two players at the same time?
The 2d images in the game (e.g. text, buttons, team logos...) look strangely distorted.
Suddenly I can not control my player any more, regardless of which keys I press.

Problems under Linux

In Linux the game crashed from time to time. The error message: "open /dev/[sound/]dsp: Device or resource busy" und dann "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: nalGenBuffers ...", or in log.txt: "com.xenoage.bp2k6.audio.lwjgl.LWJGLSoundEngine: AL.create() failed!" and "com.xenoage.bp2k6.audio.lwjgl.LWJGLSoundEngine threw an exception: Could not open ALC device".

I do not like those comical characters too... Indeed, far better than those 2D games though...
I might hire dozens of Asian and African programmers or students to improve this. Of course I have no money, I am going to raise funds by crowdfunding. How many developers do I have to hire to get a normal soccer game in a few months? It should be at least as good as FIFA or PES on PS3. Anyway thanks for the info.
Is this game the highest quality soccer game in the free software world?

edit:typo

Ideally it is compatible with many platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc.

I didn't know it but there is a popular game called 荒野行動. I looked at the size of it in the App Store and it's under 4 GB.
According to my friend, it's a survival game, basically a shoot-out, but it also allows you to talk with your teammates online.

Perhaps there is little or no time lag.

I was once conducting English lessons over Skype with tutors from around the world, and even then, the tutors were usually on Wi-Fi and I had a 4G connection, but I rarely had any Internet problems. The lesson was one-on-one, but the game seems to be about a hundred people surviving on an imaginary island online. A hundred people have probably been able to play it with little to no trouble.
I wonder what kind of servers (infrastructure) they use.

I also checked to see if there is a thing as a game controller for smartphones. There are some pretty cheap ones out there.

So it is necessary that every user can play the online football game together on their respective platform whatever it is.

Anyway cheers, cheers, cheers. It is the core of sports.
