Hello, I think you can do minimalism like that with Trisquel. Trisquel and TinyCore diverge because it is not a Libre distro. If you want minimalism, the software are more or less the same between all distros. You have a kernel, glibc, bash, grub... emacs if you want :-)
You can use Trisquel without Xorg too
