OK folks , I could never get the Net Install iso to install KDE so I thought I'd have ago myself.
I now have an iso for distribution but don't know how to host it or where, suggestions please.

Well, one thing you could do is split it into a several-parts compressed file so you can upload it to a file host that has individual file size limits. The .7z format supports this.

I guess torrent and magnet would be the best variant for the beginning.

With a LTS schedule, maybe there is now time for Ruben to support a KDE release officially ... I'd have to guess that this is actually more relevant than a Mini version.

I think it would be better to work on bug fixes and improvements such as better support for flash. If I'm not mistaken there are fixes and such things which are not implemented in abrowser/trisquel. Users are frequently posting various solutions to the problem.

Trisquel is all about a usable free desktop. To focus on supporting everything under the sun means (even with a little extra time) less stuff actually works.

Chris, not sure what you mean. Are you saying I shouldn't be doing this?

No.

I for one think it's OK that you're doing this. That's what Free Software is about.

Just don't expect it to be adopted as an official spin-off. There's always a thousand and one bugs that come up even when you think you're "done."

You hit it on the money. It isn't critical to have multiple editions to fulfill the objectives of the distribution. Its that simple. Anything else is just eating away at resources that don't exist.

It's not wrong to work on this. I'd just rather not see it eat into resources that are already being cut back. If Trisquel got to a point where the user count increased significantly (it worked for more people) there would be more money and more developers working on the project that could do things like a KDE edition.

I don't see such editions doing anything more than holding Trisquel back. It just becomes an endless cycle of its not quite ready yet (for the masses).

Chris, I'm not sure I get the gist of your argument. I'm using trisquel 6 net installer (bare bones) and using synaptic to install the programs/applications, surely this doesn't 'eat into resources'?.
Then of course there is the argument that this is 'free' and we can use it as we wish ?

Absolutely.

I was thinking of another thread when I replied. I was hoping my 'no' answer would end it! Obviously if all your doing is installing KDE from the repository it doesn't eat up resources.

Also, my comments were more along the line of "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something". It was not to tell anybody what they should and shouldn't do.

A decent theme for Trisquel on KDE would be a good start. You could make that available, and move on from there...
