Compiz + Emerald is not dead !
Many users will run this for many years. I just finished to write a tutorial abut how to install Compiz + Emerald on Trisquel-mini which is based on Lxde desktop. The tutorial is for version Trisquel 6.0 Toutatis based on Ubuntu or Lubuntu 12.04.

The tutorial is on documentation wiki into Manuals -> Configuration with the title:
Compiz Emerald in Trisquel-mini (lxde)

http://trisquel.info/en/wiki/compiz-emerald-trisquel-mini-lxde

Feel free to modify the tutorial because my English language is not so good

actually, Emerald IS dead. Recommending a non-supported piece of software, probably isn't the greatest idea. Just saying.

I've edited your how-to. Please, check it again. I'm absolutely sure I left stuff to be done there.

ps: What's your native language?

You have done a very good job! I like how the tutorial looks now. :)
My native language is Romanian.

I'm gonnna translate it into SPanish too.
An off topic question: once I knew a romanian descendent girl. Her last name was Guist. Does it means something in romanian? She was trying to make her genealogical tree based on her last name without luck. She also mentioned sending letters to the romanian embassy... But nothing.

Guist - is not a Romanian name.

Interesting coincidence, I recently looked into this. Thanks for sharing
your work, I didn't get that far as i try to stick to
maintained/supported packages.

Compiz was recently removed from Debian, Emerald never made it - both
are unmaintained/stalled for some time now:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=522935

Just like new packages introduced in Debian -> Ubuntu -> Trisquel,
assuming there is a new version of Trisquel coming up based on Ubuntu
14.04 LTS, it will be years before this is removed completely from Trisquel.

They may still work on Trisquel 6 for quite some time as you mention,
because it's based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, but manual installation +
compilation introduces maintenance work (and issues, including security)
that may not be worth it for everyone.

There should be at least a warning (or perhaps a link to this post) from
that tutorial, if it's kept on the wiki at all.
