Trisquel won't analyse blank DVD-Rs

Hello everyone.

I am new to Trisquel and I cannot analyse blank DVD-Rs. Not even in k3b. My computer will, however, analyse DVDs with iso images on them, or any other form of media such as video or audio. It just won't analyse blank DVD-Rs.
The command "$cd-info" gives this output:
https://0bin.net/paste/34cuU87rFlPl10zY#kBCfF6m6AGudTytHWK28BRToKrXgD0ULhGcA4eeYYUk

According to the output, I can write to CD-RWs, but not DVD-Rs.
Is there a way to force Trisquel to analyse and write to a blank DVD-R, so that I can burn an iso image to a blank DVD-R? Or should I try to buy a CD-RW and see if that works better?

Thank you all in advance :)

"Is there a way to force Trisquel to analyse and write to a blank DVD-R"

Not if the drive doesn't physically support it. That's what the output of your command is showing. It's answering the question of "What are the *drive's* capabilities?" Not "What are Trisquel's capabilities" :)

If you want to see "yes" to these questions below...

Writing....
Can write CD-RW : Yes
Can write DVD-R : No
Can write DVD-RAM : No
Can write DVD-RW : No
Can write DVD+RW : No

...then you will need a different drive.

It is possible that you are missing the correct driver for your disc drive. Please show us the output of

uname -a

It's really strange to have a drive that is called RW/DVD MU10N, that can read DVDs, can write to CDs, but cannot write to DVDs. I never ran accross such an animal.

They're called Combo Drives: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combo_drive

"A combo drive is a type of optical drive that combines CD-R/CD-RW recording capability with an ability to read (but not write) DVD media; some manufacturers refer this as CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive..."

The information I can find online matches the read/write capability that's being shown by cd-info.

Your "MU10N" optical drive produced by LG is a combo drive, not a DVD burner.

To burn DVDs (be it DVD+R or DVD-R or their re-writable variants), you need a DVD-RW drive. A combo drive can only read DVDs, because it's a combination of CD-RW and DVD-ROM.

Ah, so the drive is a Combo drive, and is just incapable of writing to DVDs.
Thank you all so much for your informative answers :)
