Hi,
When trying to do this, the installer crshed at about the 45% point, in the second installation phase. Following the crash, I did "lablk", and got the output below. The crash report said somethign about grub-install script. How do I get this to work? What other info may help?

Thanks,

Dave H.

Hi Dave!

I also had a similar problem during the installation. However, when I checked from the Live USB, it looked like Trisquel had already been perfectly installed. After that, I logged into another GNU/Linux distribution that I currently have in my computer (Fedora), updated grub config (that detected the Trisquel image), and could reboot and log into Trisquel without any problem. If you are able to do that, check it.

I also have to say that I have had multiple times multiple problems trying to set up GNU/Linux distributions with my UEFI laptop (Toshiba Satellite P50). After having several problems with the firmware, my recommendation is to install grub apart from the operating system. So if you don't have GRUB installed yet, try installing it from a live USB, you can find a couple of ways to do it just searching the web.

If from the Live session you cannot see Trisquel installed, or you believe that it has not been correctly installed, unfortunately, I can't help you :(

Cheers,
gnutastyc.

Thanks for your help!
Following the installer crash, I mounted the volume that should have had Trisquel on it, and found that my user had been created, and /usr/bin seemed to be partially populated. I noticed that, when looking at /etc/default/grub, I found the grub command field empty, and didn't really know what should be there. a run of the script called 'update-grub' resulted in an error message asking whether '/dev' is mounted. I gave up, and tried to install Debian; the partitioner wouldn't run. Just to get this machine back online, I threw in Fedora 27, which installed perfectly. I wonder if Trisquel 7 would have the same installation problems as 8 on UEFI machines? If the accessibility weren't so behind the times, I'd consider doing it.

Good thing about Fedora is that the have a freedom policy concerning that everything that is in their repositories is free, although their kernel has lots of bloobs.

If I were you, I would give trisquel 8's installer a try once you have grub installed from Fedora. I am still pending to write a script to be able to update my grub configuration from Trisquel without the need of logging into Fedora everytime I update the kernel, as grub is not functional in my Trisquel. Just let me know if you decide to follow this path, so I can post it here. Probably it will be done before the end of the week.

Cheers.

Thanks, but I won't be doing this; have sunk more than enough time into trying the near-impossible.
