How can I disable the screen reader in the guest session? I use it often and it is very unpleasant having to switch off from time to time. Thanks to those who can give me a hand to solve.

Like in any session I guess: from the "Seeing" tab of "Universal Access" in the "System Settings" or with Alt+Super+S ("Super" is the "Windows" key on most keyboards).

Also, if you want to permanently remove it from your system.

sudo apt-get remove gnome-orca

Just do the same. Notice that you cannot remove all Avahi without removing most of the default graphical system. But you can remove the daemon.
