Upgrade via remote shell

I have a computer that I only access remotely, using a reverse ssh tunnel that the computer is maintaining (I can't ssh to the computer directly because its internet connection is behind CGNAT).

Should do-release-upgrade work without the need for any local intervention?

You should use tmux or screen on the remote computer. If your connection is lost during the upgrade process you can connect again.
