I bought a Librebooted T500 from EBay. After running Trisquel for a while and enjoying it, I decided that it was time for a bigger hard drive, so off to EBay yet again. I went with a 500 GB Samsung SSD, used Clonezilla Live to move the installation to the bigger hard drive that was in a USB docking station, and then putting the newer drive in the T500.

Performance definitely improved and I was able to expand the partition the rest of the way using GParted Live. I have to say that I'm really pleased with the results. I was more or less able to double the space and make the system more efficient.

The system itself is maxed out at 8 GB of RAM and I already have a DVD burner. Should I try to upgrade from the Core 2 Duo P8400 or leave it as is?

This depends on how much CPU performance you need. You can try Core 2 Extreme QX9300.

In that case, I may just keep the CPU as is. It is doing quite well with the SSD.
