Upper-Right Keyboard Buttons

There are four confusing buttons on the upper-right of the keyboard of the Gentoo Penguin. There are two words on each button. The top words (NumLk, Pause, Ins, Del) work well, yet I cannot figure out how to use the bottom words (ScrLk, Break, PrtSc, SysRq). I am really irritated that I cannot use PrtSc. How do I access it?

Just a guess but there's probably a Fn button somewhere. Hold it down and hit one of those keys.

"PrtSc" is white while "Fn" is orange. I tried Fn+PrtSc anyway and my screen greyed out for a split-second. I opened GIMP and it said that there is nothing on the clipboard.

I also tried several combinations of Shift, Ctrl, Alt, and Super with the PrtSc button and they do not work.

It might not be connected to the screenshot program in Trisquel.

As an alternative method you can take a screenshot by opening gimp and going to:

File > Create > Screenshot...

or use the screen shot applet launchable from the accessories menu?
Maybe you can bind a shortcut key to this app, using System
Settings->keyboard->keyboard shortcuts?

That works.

I cannot believe I never noticed that app. -_-

:) Sure- there are a thousand and one ways to create a screenshot. I was thinking of mentioning this although I decided not to. You only need to know one way to actually do it.

You know, since there are 1001 ways to do this, I'll insist on looking
for way #1002. lol.

Thank you, that works.

I asked this Trisquel forum and ThinkPenguin support the same questions and they both replied very quickly with the same answers. Which method should I use for future problems?

Well, Chris, the CEO of ThinkPenguin usually is involved in these forums, but on the other hand he might respond faster to personal E-mails. Probably if it's something specific to the hardware you got from TP, E-mail them, and if it's more of a general Trisquel problem, post here.

There both just as good.

Stick to the one you prefer. I'm lazy. I use the gimp method because I normally am working within gimp anyway. I think having a default to create a screenshot is a nice default although I'd be too lazy to actually set it manually.

I set lots of shortcuts; makes lie easier.

In 6.0 the screenshot program (gnome-screenshot) saves images in your home folder by default, rather then to clipboard.

There are no images in my home folder.

To see if the keypresses are read, you can run xev from terminal and then navigate your cursor into the window that opens. Then hit the keys to see if they work.

Hitting Fn+PrtSc gives me the following output.

If it does not work it probably will in the near future. I know the keys work with other more recent distributions.

Forgive me.

Fn+PrtSc works. It saves the images in the Pictures folder. Now I have a 29 screen caps from pressing it again and again, thinking it was not working.

Glad to hear it works!
