verify data integrity of bootable USB
Made a bootable USB with Trisquel-mini 10.0.1 on it, but still need to verify the data integrity. Following the instructions at this website, running $ df -h shows that file system /dev/sdb1 is mounted at /media/(my computer's name)/trisquel-mini 10.0.1 amd64 For the next step it says to cd into the directory, but I can't get it to work. What do I have to type to cd into this directory? After cd-ing into the directory, it says to run $ md5sum -c md5sum.txt and wait for the output.
Someone please help me along, so I can then proceed with installing it on a netbook. Thanks!
It sounds like you already have it.
cd /media/(my computer's name)/trisquel-mini 10.0.1 amd64
md5sum -c md5sum.txt
And then wait while md5sum prints out stuff:
casper/vmlinuz.netinst: OK
casper/initrd.netinst: OK
casper/initrd: OK
casper/filesystem.squashfs: OK
casper/filesystem.manifest: OK
casper/vmlinuz: OK
casper/filesystem.manifest-remove: OK
casper/filesystem.size: OK
I've tried that, but it keeps saying
bash: cd: too many arguments
Using the USB just live on a different device, without having installed it, I've been able to cd into the directory wherever it's mounted there, and get all the ok casper outputs.
But then, when I checked AbiWord, it still contained the google search tool, and in Settings, under Privacy & Security, for Exceptions in 'Warn you when websites try to install add-ons' it gave mozilla and
fpn firefox com
fpn firefox com^privateBrowsingId=1
again. I had filed bug reports about this, and as far as I know these got fixed.
Because my original download of Trisquel-mini 10.0.1 contained these bugs, I downloaded it again (thinking it won't contain these bugs anymore), and then wanted to put the new download on the same USB overwriting the old one. But since the bugs are there, now I'm not sure whether when I used this new download with Startup Disk Creator, whether it really overwrote the old one and put the new download on it.
Because I haven't formatted a USB on Trisquel, I went back to Windows to format this USB, but it said it was not complete. What I notice now, on Trisquel, in Caja, there's Trisquel-mini 10.0.1 amd64 and the rest of the USB mounted separately, so two mounting points. But I still don't know whether this is the original download that contained the bugs, or the new download.
So how can I delete what's on the USB, and then for sure put the new download on it? Then, if the bugs are still there someone will have to deal with them again. But maybe the old download is still on there, and that's why the bugs are there. (sigh) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I think I'm getting it formatted. Read on the ubuntu forum. Used Disks, but because there were 3 partitions on this USB some of the recommendations did not work. Managed to get it all to be only one partition, am formatting it right now. Then will use Startup Disk Creator again to put the new download on. Hope the bugs aren't there, otherwise they need to get fixed, hopefully for good.

These don't sound like the kinds of problems that come up from a bad download but something within Trisquel itself. If they really have been fixed, it may be that the ISO itself hasn't been fixed and that it's only fixed after installing and then updating Trisquel, thereby pulling in the fixed versions. That would indicate an updated ISO is needed so as to not have to update but updated ISOs don't out very often. So try that: Install and then upgrade.
Is there any command(s) that will put the updates or upgraded version onto the live USB, before it is being installed, so whichever device I use the live USB with will use the updated/upgraded version of the ISO?
The 10.0.1 ISO has not been modified since it was published on May 26th 2022, that's why the updates need to be done during the installation process until a new ISO is released.
