How trustworthy are VPN's & VPN services ??

+Any recommendations for an easy to use VPN ??

I know nothing about VPN's, so any advice would be appreciated.

The VPNs can claim they do not keep your data - whether that is the case or not only the operator of the service knows. I use a VPN to bypass geo-restrctions. I used WorldVPN recently via OpenVPN which offers a free one day trial if you have an email account by a popular provider (e.g. Gmail) and also can be used via OpenVPN (the link below provides the OpenVPN configuration files).

Connecting just requires running this command:
$sudo openvpn --config countryyoudesire.ovpn

Making a decision based on old reviews on that website doesn't seem particularly wise. For instance, the WorldVPN review is 2 years old and the writer failed to setup OpenVPN using it and didn't test the free trial.

I use OpenVPN and free VPN from this site:

https://www.vpngate.net/

It provides me what I need (bypass geo-restrctions) so, for me, it´s enough.

If you want a free OpenVPN you can use this one. Bear in mind that the speed and the number of different locations is limited.

I think at least some are probably more trustworthy (or less untrustworthy) than regular internet service providers.

Giving your data to a VPN provider with a good reputation is probably the lesser of two evils.

You can also use Tor in combination with a VPN. But keep in mind that watching videos and downloading large files over the Tor network will slow it down and this will maybe affect users that need Tor more than you do (e.g. human rights activists.)
