When is the next Trisquel release due? I thought that they generally came out about 3 months after each Ubuntu release, which is about January, but I've not seen anything on the mailing lists or anywhere else about any work being done on it?

It should probably come out in March according to this announcement: http://trisquel.info/en/trisquel-3.0-sts-dwyn-ready

We are already working on it (the kernel, browser and several branding
packages are ready), it should be done by January.

Yes, it will be a great start for next year.

Awesome stuff. Will be great to have.

I'm hoping that the cardbus slot on my Thinkpad T61 will work.

I had previously gone out and bought a Linksys WPC300Nv2 wifi card which is on the FSF's list, but it seemed that Trisquel didn't support my cardbus slot. I also tried gNewSense and got the same thing there, tried a live version of Ubuntu 9.10 and that worked... Unfortunately I took the card back before testing with Ubuntu 9.04 to see if the support was perhaps just lacking from the Ubuntu version that Trisquel 3.0 is based on.

The cardbus slot is controlled by this chipset http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Ricoh_R5C843

Things like the SD-card slot which are also controlled by that chipset, work just fine, and I haven't been able to find anything online about the modules required for it using any firmware... ricoh_mmc, (mmc_core), sdhci, and sdhci_pci modules.

So I'm hoping that the next release will work, would really like to have wireless.

Anyway, can't wait. Testing out Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop with Intel 965 graphics card, I also noticed that I didn't get any tearing in videos which is really nice.

With the added work that is done in a Trisquel release, it should be near perfect.

Only a few days left in January...

I really hope I don't have to wait until February to see the next release of my beloved OS. :P

Indeed... I've been hanging out for the next release. Karmic seemed to fix problems with videos tearing on my Intel graphics card, so I can't wait to be able to watch some of the anime that I've got, with perfect unflawed images in a wonderful Free Software OS.

One more day in January... :-/

Not that I mind waiting, of course, but in all honesty, how long should it take to remove the blobs from the kernel, all the nonfree packages from the latest Ubuntu, and uploading the finished product? Not four months, I hope, especially considering that many unofficial Ubuntu derivatives release on the same day as the official distro.

Of course in our case we need the extra time since we have the added issue of bugs that result from our inclusion of only free software.

I love Free Software and am very much looking forward to the new Trisquel. Hope to see it soon.

We're now half way through February and still don't have a Beta release. Rather frustrating and the developers seem to communicate offline so we can't follow the progress and it makes it harder for other people to get involved with the project.

Indeed, transparency is one of this project's greatest weaknesses.

Developers, I urge you to set up an IRC channel, to use the Trisquel-devel list (http://listas.trisquel.info/pipermail/trisquel-devel/) as the primary mode of communication, and to release your unstable branch publicly. This will result in a more transparent process and less nagging from your users about when it's going to be done.
